The Makerere University Guild Election Tribunal has set March 17, for the hearing of the election petition filed by Mr. Roy Ssemboga challenging Electoral Commission’s (EC) declaration of Bazil Mwotta as winner of last Friday 11th , 2016 guild presidential elections.
In its official notice that this site has seen, the tribunal’s secretary who is also the dean of students has summoned the 2nd correspondent (chairman electoral commission) Mr. Roy Ndaula and the 1st correspondent Mr. Bazil Mwotta (the guild president elect) to a tribunal that will sit on Thursday 17th March 2016 at 10:00 am in the council room at the University’s main building.
“You are accordingly invited to defend yourself against accusations,” read the statement in part which also asked to come with witnesses.
According to the new guild constitution of the guild as amended February 2016, it provides for the creation of the Guild Election Petition Tribunal under article 80.
The guild election petition tribunal is composed of a University council member as its chairman, the guild advisor, the legal advisor, the speaker, the deputy speaker, and the two chaplains of both St. Francis and St. Augustine Chapels, and the Imam.
The tribunal is expected to make a ruling on the petition within seven days after receiving the petition where upon its hearing, the ruling is made or announced within 48hours after the hearing.
Meanwhile, Ssemboga Roy’s camp has pronounced a strike in case the tribunal doesn’t meet their expectations.
